Japan Business Days Calculator
+More features: apply company closing days and Saturday business
Add your company’s own closing days (such as a summer break), or switch Saturdays to working days, and the same calculation is redone with that company calendar.
Instantly find out when “3 business days later” actually falls, skipping weekends and Japanese national holidays — Japan’s holiday calendar is different from your home country’s, so deadlines in Japan can land on unexpected dates. It also counts how many business days a period contains. Use it to check delivery dates, payment deadlines, and when banks and government offices in Japan will next be open to process your paperwork.
How to use
- Choose “Date after N business days” or “Business days in a period”.
- Enter the start date and the number of business days (or the end date).
- The result appears the moment you enter the values. No button needed.
How it is calculated
- Business day = any day that is not a Saturday, Sunday or Japanese national holiday.
- “N business days later” is counted from the day after the start date (3 business days after a Friday = the following Wednesday).
- Holidays include substitute holidays (when a holiday falls on a Sunday, the next weekday is off) and citizens’ holidays (a weekday sandwiched between two holidays). In 2026, September 22 is a citizens’ holiday between Respect for the Aged Day (September 21) and the Autumnal Equinox (September 23).
- Business days in a period are counted including both the start and end dates.
Sources and assumptions
- Holidays follow the Act on National Holidays and are based on the 2026 and 2027 lists in the Cabinet Office of Japan page “About the National Holidays” (in Japanese).
Assumptions and notes
- Banks, securities firms and the like have their own extra closing days on top of these, such as the New Year period (December 31 – January 3). Check exact deadlines with each institution.
- Some companies define business days differently (open on Saturdays, closed on certain weekdays).
- Holidays may change if the law is revised (supported range: 2026–2027).
Frequently asked questions
Does “within 3 business days” include the day itself?
By custom, counting usually starts from the business day after the request, but contracts and terms may define it differently. This tool counts from the day after the start date. For important deadlines, confirm with the other party.
What does a bank’s “treated as next business day” mean?
If you make a transfer on a weekend, on a holiday or after 3 p.m., the actual processing happens on the next business day. A transfer after 3 p.m. on Friday is processed on Monday (Tuesday if Monday is a holiday).
Which holiday data does this use?
The 2026 and 2027 national holidays (including substitute holidays) published by the Cabinet Office of Japan. Dates outside this range return an error.
