A split where some people pay more (weighted)

A weighted split for the “the boss pays a bit more” custom. The rounding is absorbed by the people paying more (if the total is left blank, the value from the form above is used).

Is “X yen per person” enough?

Checks how much is left over or missing if you collect a round amount from each person (the total and the number of people come from the form above).

Because amounts are rounded up, the money collected can come to more than the bill (leaving a surplus). Agreeing in advance on what happens to the surplus — covering the organiser or carrying it over to next time — keeps things smooth.
What this tool tells you

Enter the total and the number of people and you instantly see how much each person should pay. You can round up to easy-to-collect amounts such as 100 or 500 yen, which helps when one person pays the restaurant and collects cash from everyone afterwards — the usual way a bill is split in Japan.

How to use

  1. Enter the total on the receipt and the number of people.
  2. Choose a unit that is easy to collect (100 yen, 500 yen and so on). If everyone can hand over small change, choose “1 yen” for an exact split.
  3. The amount per person, the total collected and the surplus appear as you type — no button needed.

Frequently asked questions

What if the organiser wants to pay more (or less)?

Subtract the organiser's share from the total first, then divide the rest by the remaining number of people. For example, if the bill is 30,000 yen and the organiser covers 5,000 yen, split 25,000 yen among the others.

What should I do with the surplus?

Rounding up usually leaves a surplus of tens to hundreds of yen. It is commonly used to reimburse the person who paid up front, offset card points, or go towards the next gathering. For an exact split, choose the “1 yen” unit.

I want senior and junior colleagues to pay different amounts.

The main form is for even splits only. For a weighted split, the simplest approach is two steps: decide what the senior members will cover, subtract it from the total, then split the rest evenly. The “+More features” section also has a weighted split.
